Teaching individual practices allows more ways to share a plethora of questions that centre around Yoga and physical strength for Yoga. These sessions focus on the individual needs of the individual, such as, corrective posture, propping, alignment cues, simplifying or expanding posture, reminders of codes of ethics (Yamas and Niyamas) and breath with awareness practices (prānāyāma). These are all personally curated sessions that determine what is most important to the individual. Session times are catered to suit the students' schedule, energy, intention (sankalpa) and sacred needs.
Traditionally, Yoga was taught one to one, from the teacher directly to the student.This ensured that the development of all the practices were in respect of the ancient Rishis and, along with residential duties and chores, this became an essential part of the education that helped to inculcate self discipline (Tapas). Due to the colonisation of India, this became a lesser desired form of Yoga, right until the late 18th century. In 1948, the modern Gurukul system was founded, this was to uphold the traditions and the richness that it fosters. Private sessions build on many aspects of life,especially where life gets in the way of our deepest needs. Yoga meets you where you are at, thus, learning us to cultivate: * Letting go of the unnecessary * How to utilise postures that are safe through informed practices and to involve strength training in support of this * How to modify your practice to heal injuries, support the ageing body and help foster personal needs throughout many life changes * How to progress through lost courage * How to manage trauma through a Trauma Informed Yoga practice * How to overcome imposter syndrome and self sabotage * How to manage the spine and nurture its relevance to energy * How to compress practices to accommodate your priorities * How to defy how occupational 'sitting' affects the body, weakening body posture and its cause of defective breathing. |
